Having nailed down a concept for our series of three KPI posters, we prepared to paint colour comps in acrylics by gessoing a sheet of masonite. We then painted a ground on the board and began mixing paints to see how the acrylic colours look and feel when you brush them onto the board. We explored some different ways of painting with acrylics, trying some techniques that have been popular among illustrators for decades.
We then sketched three long rectangles on the board and began blocking in colours for the comps. Here's an example of the progress made during the first week:

Before these will be ready for upload to the Colour Comps drop box, they need to be taken into Photoshop where type elements, graphic elements required by the college branding guidelines and a print-ready Mohawk logo will be placed on layers. The final colour comps, ready for presentation to the client, should look like these examples from a previous year's class:
Designer: Nick Soares
Designer: Jordyn Doyle
Designer: Tiffany Smith
Even though we are currently working to the proportion of the J-Signs, the designs must be flexible. Some designs might be selected for printing on J-Signs, but others may be chosen for wall posters or bathroom posters. below are the technical specs provided to us that spell out all the details regarding what the college requires in the way of file prep:
